Celebration of World Language Day with Rotaract Club of Pune Zenith.

English Language Day is observed annually on April 23, the aim is to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity by exploring the language. English Language Day marks both the birthday and date of the death of famed writer William Shakespeare. English is one of the most popular languages used across the world. The day prospects the development, history, culture, and achievements associated with the language.

English Language Day was first marked by the United Nations' Department of Global Communications in 2010 as part of an initiative for establishing language days for each of the UN's six official languages.

An interesting fact that needs to be noted is that 1500 years ago, only three tribes spoke English, whereas now it is spoken by around 2 billion people. About 75 countries have given official status to this language.

Every year, April 23 is celebrated as the World Book and Copyright Day, also known as World Book Day, to honour the great works by authors around the world. The special day has been marked by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an attempt to promote the love of reading, writing books, translations, publishing and copyright.

World Book Day is celebrated in over 100 countries around the globe. It is often said that “books are a person's best companions''. The World Book Day was first observed by UNESCO on April 23, 1995, as a worldwide celebration of books and reading and to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading.

On the occasion of World book day and world English language day, an engaging activity was conducted by the International Service Director, Rtr. Aditya Mesta wherein a book donation drive was initiated in B.K. Birla college and in total 150 books were collected from the students and team members.

Out of 150 books. 50 books were English story books and grammar books and other 100 books were language, history, etc.

Under Manasvini 8.0 initiative, all the collected books were used for establishing a library in a school of wagherapada village on 28th April, 2022.
